The latest additions to this year’s Strawberry Fest line – up is over flowing with some of the most talked about acts of 2012 along with British rockers STATUS QUO who play their only Irish show at the festival. They will be joined by Mullingar maestro BRESSIE, Galway’s finest rockers THE SAW DOCTORS, THE KANYU TREE all siblings from Salthill who performed at the festivals official launch party (Saturday 24) in Enniscorthy, Waterford rapper ROB KELLY, epic trio THE MINUTES and many more.
Boogie rock, ultimate rock, psychedelic rock or all of the above just about sum up the sound of STATUS QUO. They released an exclusive new studio album “Quid Pro Quo” in 2011. With a career spanning over four decades the London based rockers, also known as ‘THE QUO’ have recorded 64 British hit singles, 22 of which have hit the Top Ten. The first hit single ‘Pictures of Matchstick Men’ reached Number 7 in 1968. THE QUO’S 1990 ‘Rockin’ All Over The Years’ album sold over 1.1 million units in Great Britain, attaining triple platinum sales status. 2012 is proving to be quite a year for X Blizzards guitarist and singer BRESSIE. He released his first solo single “Can’t Stay Young (Forever”) which received extensive airplay nationwide. Following this, saw the release of his eagerly awaited debut solo album “Colourblind Stereo”. Bressie currently joins fellow judges and musicians Sharon Corr, Brian Kennedy and Kian Egan on RTE The Voice. They recently returned from storming Eurosonic & SXSW. The Galway natives are destined for great things, their sounds and harmonies are like no other. The album was co- produced by the band and Ali Shaheed Muhammad from A Tribe Called Quest and mixed by Chris Potter. If you ask the siblings to define their sound, they’ll say “Pop. Classic. Pop”. Listen to their hit singles ‘Radio’, 'Shelf Life' and their new single 'Congratuations' is now available for download. Wexford born and raised hip hop artist ROB KELLY has etched his way up the ladder of Irish urban artists to become one of the pioneers of his scene. Ireland is known for many things: Guinness, shamrocks, and now - John O'Callaghan.
Firmly established in the A-list trance elite, John O'Callaghan is set to continue his journey further up the ladder of electronic dance super-stardom. John's high- energy trance mix coupled with a highly refined precision mixing style has seen him surge up through the DJ ranks. Spinning his first Radio 1 Essential Mix in the summer of 2008, the gifted 29 year old was one of only 4 trance DJs to do so during the year. Immediately following that, he made his debut in DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs rundown, arriving at No.60. In the 2009 chart he became one of the year's highest climbers, leaping 36 places into the world's top 25 (at number 24) and cemented his place as Ireland's foremost DJ & producer. In 2010 he held his own and remained in the Top 40 at number 33, in a year where house music exploded into the poll – this was a great achievement to maintain his rank. In his home country he has picked up the Best DJ awards at the Irish Dance Music Awards for 3 consecutive years; decisively conquered the notoriously competitive testing ground of Ibiza and was the first Irishman to play Trance Energy. John has achieved so much already but this is just the beginning of a trance legacy. Support on the night comes in the form of one of the regions biggest names, Darren Rice. Darren is a Wexford native that has been a recognisable name on the Irish scene for many years. Having shared line-ups with an immeasurable amount of the worlds leading names from a very young age, an appearance on the main stage at Creamfields Ireland aged only 18 was the one that really set the ball rolling. Since then dates for the likes of Gatecrasher, Godskitchen, Goodgreef, Planet Love & Revolution have all made up a pretty colored & varied gigography over the last 12 years. In recent times the production bug has taken over Darren, leading to the launch of the highly respected "Heavy Reel" imprint alongside fellow militant Dj amel, receiving huge support in recent times from the likes of Dave Clarke, Laurent Garnier, Speedy J & many other techno heavyweights. Tune into his hugely popular Saturday Selection each week on Beat to hear the freshest tech-house & techno tracks on the planet + guest mixes by quality DJs from around the globe. First into the box on the night shall be local favorite Sorin Kiss. Sorin hails from Hungary where he, as a teenager caught the bug and began spinning at collage parties as well as outdoor festival events. Since his arrival in Ireland in 2007 Sorin has gone from strength to strength on the circuit here and has been both adorned and adopted to the local fraternity, regularly guesting at popular Wexford club venues Lava Lounge, Pod101 & Metropolis as well as holding a weekly residency with worldwide online radio station radio4by4.com . More recently Sorin featured at Mystik Music Festival 2011, where he shared the bill with such heavy weight artists as Fergie, Filterheadz, Dave Seaman, Sunil Sharp & the iconic Mr Spring. Sorin will tell you this has been his highlight so far – we will tell you there is so much higher to come…. Watch this space. The Metropolis Night Club Venue is without a doubt a jewel in Ireland’s clubland crown and has hosted literally some of the biggest events ever to hit Irish Shores with internationally renowned artists such as Mauro Picotto, Tall Paul, Groove Armada, Judge Jules & Eddie Halliwell all having drawn record crowds to this 1000+ capacity, purpose built clubbers paradise. We can guarantee than John O’Callaghan well certainly be no exception John O'Callaghan plays Metropolis Nightclub Wexford Easter Bank Holiday Weekend Saturday April 7th. Admission €10. Doors 10pm. Paying tribute to the late Amy Winehouse are Dublin band, Mainly Winehouse. This energetic ensemble will blow you away, with a mix of "Winehouse" tracks, a good dose of Motown and modern, popular soul.
Since Amy’s tragic death in July 2011, she’s topping the charts again. ‘Back to Black’ has just become the UK’s biggest selling album of the 21st century. Mainly Winehouse draw from this Grammy award-winning masterpiece, playing all of the hits; from ‘Valerie’ and ‘Rehab’ to ‘You Know I’m no Good’ and the ever emotive ballad, ‘Love is a Losing Game’. They also play many of the jazzier tracks from Amy’s first album. But of course their set is not exclusively “Amy”. Expect to hear upbeat Motown, from Stevie Wonder and Tina Turner to Michael Jackson and Marvin Gaye. The band also include an eclectic mix of today’s chart-toppers with Amy’s timeless style, from Aloe Blaac’s ‘I need a dollar’ to Imelda May’s ‘Tainted Love’. On vocals, Tamara Downey keeps it authentic and soulful in a breathtaking style so reminiscent of the great soul singers Motown has produced, and of course Amy herself. The extensively experienced Mainly Winehouse band consists of EoghanDeHoog on Guitar (The Company, Red Square), Rob Grimes on Piano/Keys (Dublin Gospel Choir, Pretzel Logic), Paul Moran on bass(The Spiders), and Colin Downey on Drums (Dirty Sanchez, Tabularasa).
